How to
use Canva to Design (Beginners Level)
Canva is an easy-to-use online design tool that helps you
create graphics, documents, and visual content without needing advanced design
skills. And it also saves your work automatically even when you forget. You
know we all forget.
The interface of Canva can be a bit tricky to use as a
beginner. But a great fun to when you try it having a basic understanding
first. So, allow me to take you on a tour.
First sign up on the app using your Gmail Account or any
other way suitable for you. The you will be greeted with a purple and white
elegant design.
At the very left panel you will see the Create button with
the + sign. Click on it and on the left panel scroll down to the Custom size.
Choose your custom size leave it in the px unit. For this example, I am using
the width of 1200 and the height 400 in px.
We are creating a design for web banner of course you can
create whatever but follow me and get use to the-know-how. Let’s start with
adding a template design. Like in Powerpoint we start from choosing a design
from the Theme menu. I like choosing my design or template first.
Next in-line choose an Element – like a shape, icons,
animations, graphics and so on. I added a shape in this case I am using a
square. To add an element, you just click on it and it will appear on the
center of the Canva (your design page).
At this beginner’s level avoid the Brand.
Now, what if I
want to add an external image. Its so simple but time consuming – click on the
upload icon and click on the upload file, a dialogue will pop up select the
Picture and give it time to upload on your project. Now, you can click on it
and it will be added to your Canva.
Notice that we skip the Text icon – at this point you know
what the Text icon represent and how it works. I guess so. Of course, there are
different levels of Fonts, text is also called fonts in design. There is
different level like the font for the Header, sub header or paragraph. Since
it’s a design I am choosing a stylish font. Add you text as please.
I have taught few people using their phone and they are do
fine.
My final product look like –
This is a very Quicker way of creating a banner if you like
shortcut.
